Subject: two stories of tech
The latest London Review of Books 45.19, for 5 October 2023, has two
stories that I suspect will interest many here.
The first is Jenny Turner, "Naomi Klein"*, on what can happen when a
social media 'learning' algorithm gets a hold on a mistaken association
between very different individuals, and what we can learn from this.
The second is James Vincent, "Prosthetic Brainpower"**, on the history
of the pocket calculator.
The first of these is freely accessible; the second may be, depending on
whether you've been frequenting the LRB and so using up your free
article limit.
Read them tonight!
Yours,
WM
