Dear all,

The DIGHT-net project’s next workshop

“Community and Cultural Heritage – Interacting with the Digital Archive” will
take place on

Friday November 21, 2025
at 14:00-17:00 (EET – in Central European Time zone at 13:00-16:00)
online

The formation of cultural heritage is inherently a community-forming activity,
wherein the involved communities define what is important to them and shape
their identities accordingly. Online communities interact with cultural heritage
in ways that may differ from interactions with traditional physical archives,
and the multiplicity of meaning-making contexts in digital archives presents
both opportunities and challenges. This workshop addresses cultural heritage as
a community and examines online communities related to cultural heritage. We
will explore the types of digital memory communities that exist and how they
interact with digital cultural heritage. How does online interaction shape
knowledge and group identities related to the past? How can we balance academic
and popular uses of digital cultural heritage to enhance user experience? We
will also discuss innovative methods to improve user engagement, such as
chatting with an archivist or using interactive bots, to provide access to
information beyond what is represented online.

Schedule (in East European time zone)
14:00 – 14:15 Welcome and Introduction, Hannu Salmi, University of Turku
14:15 – 15:00 Digital Heritage Communities, Speaker: Anna Sivula, Professor,

Hello everyone,

DH@Guelph is thrilled to announce that our annual workshops will take place May
19th-22nd, 2026! Please save the date!

If you are interested in teaching a workshop as part of DH@Guelph, please keep

Call for Workshops

We are seeking 4-day workshops on any aspect of digital humanities. Proposals
will be selected by the local organizing committee with a view to maintaining
the workshops’ emphasis on diversity in the digital humanities, meeting demand
for particular topics, and instructor experience and qualifications.
In addition to other topics, for 2026 we are particularly interested in
workshops that address some aspects of video game making or studies, data
visualization, web design, and UX.

The DH@Guelph Summer Workshops will run over four days, May 19th-22nd, 2026.
DHatGuelph covers the cost of travel, residence accommodation, and a modest
honorarium for visiting instructors. Note that our budget is limited with a view
to keeping participant costs reasonable, so if your expenses will be significant
we are unlikely to be able to accept the proposal.

To propose a workshop, please fill in this form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/
108A70NIb61ulu4m1vs0S59Bsck6To1xLR9HG3LoHaJo/edit>.

Applications are due December 15, 2025. We plan to offer a maximum of 10
workshops, so adhering to the deadline is necessary for consideration. You will
be notified of results by January 10th, 2026.

If you'd like to see what workshops were offered in the past, please take a look

dhguelph@uoguelph.ca in advance of the deadline, if you are curious about what
might work!

We look forward to hearing from you!
Warmly,
Kim Martin and Paul Barrett
