        Subject: 'AI' vs. 'artificial intelligence'

When in informal discussion, I am told, computer science students at
Stanford sometimes say that they want to 'do' AI, not artificial
intelligence, meaning that they want jobs in lucrative positions as
engineers in in Silicon Valley (I would say, of gadgets with the
appearance of intelligence), not research posts exploring the questions
Tim Smithers writes about. For us, I'd suppose, the question is how to
address the common misunderstandings that fuel that Valley, wherever
located.
