Subject: Call for Expressions of Interest – LUSTRE/GLOW Workshop on AI and Government Records (Hybrid, The National Archives, 20–21 April)
Dear all,
I am writing to invite expressions of interest for participation in a two-day
hybrid workshop on AI and government records, taking place on Monday 20 and
Tuesday 21 April at The National Archives, London.
This not-to-be missed workshop is organised as part of the LUSTRE/GLOW
initiative, led by Professor Lise Jaillant and supported by Loughborough
University, in collaboration with The National Archives and the UK Cabinet
Office.
Building on the LUSTRE <https://lustre-network.net/> project, GLOW brings
together archivists and Knowledge & Information Management professionals in
government and the GLAM sector, computer scientists/AI specialists, Digital
Humanists and other researchers on both sides of the Atlantic. The initiative
explores how artificial intelligence can support improved access to born-digital
government records while engaging carefully with questions of sensitivity,
metadata quality, provenance, and institutional trust.
Across the two days, the workshop will provide space to discuss current
practices and shared challenges, as well as opportunities to exchange
perspectives across different institutional and national contexts.
The event will be hybrid. Participation will be possible in person at The
National Archives or online. Due to space constraints, the Expression of
Interest process applies only to in-person attendance. Online participation will
remain open, and further details will be shared closer to the event.
Confirmed keynote speakers include:
*David Canning MBE, UK Cabinet Office
*John Sheridan, The National Archives (TNA)
*Professor Jason R. Baron, University of Maryland
*Michael D. Thomas, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
*Professor Iadh Ounis, University of Glasgow
*Dr Graham McDonald, University of Glasgow
A limited number of places are available for in-person participation. The event
is free to attend, with lunch and refreshments provided for those attending in
person.
To express your interest in attending in person, please email
L.zhao6@lboro.ac.uk by Monday 30 March, including:
*A short bio (maximum 100 words)
*A short Expression of Interest (maximum 150 words) outlining your expertise and
interest in the topic
We will be in touch in early April to confirm attendance.
We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be a productive and timely
exchange.
Kind regards,
LUSTRE/GLOW Research Team
