Humanist Discussion Group, Vol. 39, No. 45. Department of Digital Humanities, University of Cologne Hosted by DH-Cologne www.dhhumanist.org Submit to: humanist@dhhumanist.org Date: 2025-06-05 19:22:06+00:00 From: Geoffrey Rockwell <grockwel@ualberta.ca> Subject: Alert: Deleting Older Voyant Corpora Please spread the word: Voyant will be deleting all corpora that haven’t been used in over a year on August 15th. The current Voyant Server has been in operation for three years now and our cached data is overflowing and starting to cause serious problems. Because of this, we have reluctantly decided to remove all corpora that have not been used in over a year. Anytime a user accesses a corpus, the "last access date" of that corpus is reset to the current date. In order to guarantee that your corpus is not deleted we ask that everyone simply load it in Voyant and click a few buttons to change something. This will reset the "last access date" for that corpus and prevent it from being marked for deletion. Warning: the corpora that we delete will be unrecoverable. Please access and briefly use any corpus you want us to keep cached. To rebuild it you will need to re-upload the texts and index a new corpus. Moving forward, we have plans to implement a more robust system for Voyant Consortium members to be able to distinguish between temporary and permanent corpora. Explanations about this new system will be shared with Consortium members and as part of our newsletter. However, until that feature is finished, we have no choice but to rely on file access dates to identify which corpora are being used and which are not. Users of Voyant are encouraged to sign up for a free membership in the Consortium.
