Subject: Launch Event Cambridge Forum on AI: Culture and Society

After working on it for almost two years, we are very happy to finally launch
the open access journal Cambridge Forum on AI: Culture and Society, published by
Cambridge University Press.

The journal brings together the humanities, arts, social sciences, and computing
to treat AI as a situated social and cultural practice. Its inaugural issue,
'Cultures of AI Interdisciplinarity', argues that interdisciplinary AI work
needs more than just adding a social or cultural researcher to a technical team.
The contributions cover critical technical practice, civic engagement, and
friction in AI research, and hybrid human–AI approaches to studying social and
cultural questions.

Four contributors to that issue will discuss what to do with interdisciplinary
AI: Alan Blackwell (University of Cambridge), Nishant Shah (Chinese University
of Hong Kong), Dieuwertje Luitse (University of Amsterdam) and Georgina Born
(UCL), co-editor of the journal. Co-editors Beth Coleman (University of Toronto)
and Tobias Blanke (University of Amsterdam) will introduce the journal and chair
the session.
