Subject: GLOW-Ready (Getting Government Archives GenAI-Ready) Online Workshop 1 (Online Registration Open)
Dear all,
We are pleased to announce that online registration is now open for GLOW-Ready
(Getting Government Archives GenAI-Ready) Workshop 1, taking place online on
Thursday 18 June 2026, 13:00–17:00 BST.
GLOW-Ready is a research project led by Professor Lise Jaillant and funded by
Loughborough University, working with partners including The National Archives,
the Cabinet Office, PRONI, the National Library of Wales, and the Intellectual
Property Office. The project builds on earlier LUSTRE/GLOW<https://lustre-
network.net/> projects, which started in 2022.
Government archives hold born-digital records, including emails, documents,
audio, and video, that are vital for public accountability, historical
understanding, and civic participation, yet they remain difficult to access and
use at scale. With the rise of generative AI, users increasingly expect
conversational discovery, rapid synthesis, and transparent provenance. At the
same time, archives and Knowledge and Information Management teams need
practical and responsible ways to adapt their services while respecting
confidentiality, privacy, sensitivity, and other constraints.
The workshop will bring together academic researchers, journalists, family
historians, genealogists, other users of archives, archival professionals, and
KIM professionals. Speakers are invited because of their direct experiences and
insights as users: what they look for, how they look for it, what helps them
find it, and what gets in the way.
The workshop will focus on:
*Understanding user needs and expectations
*AI-assisted discovery in practice
*Identifying priorities for AI-assisted government archives
*Issues of trust, transparency, sensitivity, and responsible access
The programme currently available on the event page is a draft programme. Minor
adjustments may still be made, although no major changes are expected.
Confirmed speakers and contributors include:
Speakers
* Professor Paul Gooding, University of Glasgow
* Professor Giovanni Colavizza, University of Copenhagen / University of
Bologna
* Professor Frédéric Clavert, University of Luxembourg
* Glen Layne-Worthey, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

• Explore the knowledge graph using a conversational interface
• Investigate their own questions and topics of interest
• Provide feedback on usability, user experience, and content
